Why Competence Alone Is Not Enough – and Personality Traits Don’t Fully Explain All Either
In many organizations, people are primarily evaluated based on their competence, education, and experience.
These are visible and measurable attributes, but they rarely explain why two individuals with identical backgrounds behave, act, and succeed in completely different ways.
It is often forgotten that people are not just skills and knowledge. They are also personalities, behavioral tendencies, and inner motivations.
When personality is assessed, it is usually done narrowly: as isolated traits or typologies. This reveals only part of the truth and fails to show what actually drives a person’s choices in different situations.
A simple ‘what are they like’ is not enough. We also need to ask ‘why’.
MaPP7 combines two key perspectives that are rarely evaluated together:
- Psychological preferences – how a person naturally perceives, reacts, and operates
- Motives – what they fundamentally seek, need, and value
The interaction between these explains how and why a person behaves — not just what they look like on paper or in a first impression.
Someone may outwardly appear consistent and goal-oriented, but their actions may be deeply driven by a need for approval, security, or influence. That’s why assessments must go beneath the surface.
MaPP7 does exactly this — in a structured and clear way.
It requires no interpreter, yet genuinely helps to understand how a person operates as a whole.
