Does Gender Matter in Assessment?
Many organizations champion equality—yet still make choices based on unconscious sex-based biases. We hear terms like “female-dominated” or “male” roles. It’s assumed that certain traits are typical of one gender, even though individual variations within groups far surpass differences between them.
Research shows and real-world experience confirms:
Gender does not predict motivation.
It does not determine working style.
It does not tell us how a person makes decisions or what they commit to in their work.
Yet many assessment models still rely on assumptions that can reinforce outdated role models.
MaPP7 takes a different approach.
Our assessment model doesn’t sort people by sex or rely on assumptions about ‘who fits where.’ Instead, it maps each individual’s internal structure and behavioral preferences—regardless of any traditional category they’ve been placed in.
This doesn’t mean that gender is socially or culturally irrelevant. But when assessing an individual’s potential, motivations, and ways of working, gender is not the right variable.
An individual is more than a representative of their group. And that’s exactly why they deserve to be seen and assessed: as an individual.
